The pane is $200 to $500 and goes in inside an hour; the reason the job takes longer than that is the clean-out, which is included rather than charged as an extra. Glass for the common cars around Lawncrest sits on the shelf, so a call at nine usually means the car is finished the same day. Have the year, make, model and which window went ready when you ring.

Tempered glass is designed to fail safely and it does that by turning into thousands of small blunt cubes instead of shards. That is good news for whoever was sitting next to it and bad news for the inside of the car. The cubes travel far further than seems possible: down the belt line into the door skin, under the seat rails, into the seat belt reel housing, along the carpet edge, and into the boot well if it was the rear screen. Around Lawncrest a lot of these cars were standing in a driveway beside the house rather than at the kerb, which means the break happened on the blind side and the car stood open all night.
So there are two jobs here. The pane comes off the regulator, the channels are cleared, the new glass is set square so it seals along the top edge and does not whistle at speed, and the door card goes back without the rattle that a missing clip leaves. Then the cavity itself is vacuumed rather than only the interior. If the car stood open through weather, the door card, the speaker and the loom get looked at as well, because water inside a door outlasts the broken glass as a problem by a long way, and a soaked carpet underlay leaves a smell that survives a whole summer.
“Very nice people working here! They quickly received my windshield and installed it! The gentleman that replaced the window was very careful and polite! I've been here a few times for window replacement and have never had a negative experience! And pricing is also very reasonable!”

Driveway parking changes this job in one useful way: there is room. On most Lawncrest blocks the van can stand alongside the car with both doors open and work without holding anybody up, which is not true of the streets nearer Erie Avenue. It also means the work can happen while you are out, provided somebody can leave the car unlocked or the keys somewhere sensible. What we ask you not to do is sweep the seats out first. Every household vacuum pushes cubes deeper into the pile and none of them reaches inside a door, so a well-meant tidy-up before we arrive only makes the proper clean-out take longer.

Mostly the things you cannot see. Water through a missing door window lands on the card, the speaker cone and the wiring loom inside the door before it reaches the sill, and through a rear window it soaks the parcel shelf and boot carpet, which never fully dries on its own. While the door card is off we check the speaker and the loom and clear the drain holes at the bottom of the door, which are usually blocked with glass by then. Lifting the carpet at the sill to let the underlay dry is worth doing yourself afterwards.
Yes, and Lawncrest is one of the better places for it. A driveway gives the van room on both sides of the car, which is all this job really needs, and side and rear glass is far less weather-sensitive than a bonded windshield so it goes ahead in most conditions. The price is the same $200 to $500 as it would be on the bay. When you book, say whether the car is in the driveway or at the kerb and which side the damage is on, so the van is put where it needs to be.
