$200 to $500 fitted and under an hour on the bay, with the glass for the common cars around Oxford Circle kept in stock because this is the busiest call the shop takes. If the car is boxed in on a block off Castor Avenue and going nowhere, say so when you ring, because the van will come out to it for exactly the same money.

A side window takes seconds to lose and makes a mess out of all proportion to that. The pane is tempered, so it does not break into shards, it collapses into thousands of blunt cubes, and on streets parked this tightly a good share of them go straight down the gap between the glass and the door skin rather than into the car. That is the part that costs people money later. Cubes sitting in the run channel and in the bottom of the door drag against the new pane every time the window travels, and the regulator is what gives up first, usually six months on with nobody connecting it back to the break-in.
So the door comes apart properly instead of the glass being dropped in from the top. Card off, channel and cavity cleared out, the drain holes at the bottom of the door checked clear, new pane mounted square on the regulator so it seals along the top and does not whistle, card refitted with all its clips. If the old glass had factory privacy tint, the replacement is ordered tinted through the body of the glass rather than filmed, because film on a clear pane looks close on the day and will not match the pane beside it after two summers. Aftermarket film that was on the old glass does not transfer, which is worth knowing before the price surprises you.
“Very nice people working here! They quickly received my windshield and installed it! The gentleman that replaced the window was very careful and polite! I've been here a few times for window replacement and have never had a negative experience! And pricing is also very reasonable!”

On these blocks the deciding question is whether the car can get out at all. Oxford Circle streets are parked to capacity, and a car broken into overnight is frequently pinned between two others by somebody who left at six in the morning. If yours can move, the run down the Boulevard is fifteen to twenty minutes and the shop opens at nine. If it cannot, the van needs one legal space beside it and about an hour, and the street with the nearest corner is more useful to us than the block number. One local habit worth breaking: do not brush the cubes into the gutter here, because the pavements are narrow and people walk them to Castor Avenue for the bus. Clearing it is part of the job anyway.

For the cars that fill these streets, usually yes. Plain door and quarter panes for the common models are held precisely because this is the job we do most, so a call at nine often means the car is done before lunch. What is not on the shelf is anything with factory privacy tint, a heating element, an aerial or an unusual shape, and those are a day rather than a week. Stock is checked while you are describing the car, so the answer you get is real and not an optimistic one.
You can, but it is usually the more expensive route. Tape and sheeting keep some rain out and none of the wind, so the door card, the speaker and the loom get wet, and a visibly open car on a block like this tends to get hit a second time. The cubes left in the door also work on the regulator every time you use the window, and a regulator is a separate bill on top of the glass. The pane is $200 to $500 and under an hour, so ring for the actual figure on your car before deciding that waiting saves anything.
