The rear screen is the pane people most often assume is simple. It is usually tempered, so it does not crack and give you notice, it goes all at once and fills the boot, the parcel shelf, the backs of the rear seats and the spare wheel well. It is also the busiest piece of glass on the car. Printed into it you commonly have a heated grid with a connector at each side, an aerial element, sometimes a third brake light, and on an estate or SUV a wiper spindle passing straight through it. Every one of those is an option rather than a standard fitting, which is why two identical-looking cars take different parts.
Door glass, fixed quarter panes, vent windows and sunroof panels sit in the same range and each behaves differently. Door glass comes off a regulator. Quarter and rear panes are usually bonded with urethane and carry a cure time. Vent windows are small enough to be fiddly and rare enough to be ordered rather than stocked. What they all have in common is what happens after the pane is in: tempered glass leaves thousands of blunt cubes in places you cannot see, and on a rear screen that means the boot well and the seat belt reels as well as the obvious carpet. Anything electrical in the new pane is tested working before the car is handed back.
