Cheltenham is over the city line but it is not far over it, and the way people here use their cars is suburban in every respect that matters to glass. Houses have driveways and garages, most vehicles are off the street overnight, and the daily miles are commuting miles: down Old York Road, down the Boulevard, onto the expressways and back. Break-in glass is a small part of what we do from the township. Windshields are almost all of it, and almost all of that damage was collected somewhere else and carried home.
Trees are the other half of the Cheltenham story. Elkins Park, Wyncote and the older residential streets have serious canopy, and a car parked under it all year is under a slow rain of sap, seed and small debris, with the real risk of a limb in a summer storm. Sap and pollen bond grit to the windshield, wipers grind it in, and glass ages faster here than the mileage suggests. Because there is nearly always a driveway to work on, this is one of the better areas for the mobile van; where the weather is against us, it is a fifteen minute run down Old York Road and back. Old York Road, PA-611, is the spine of the township, four lanes of commuter and retail traffic running from Jenkintown down through Elkins Park and across the city line, and it is patched heavily where it carries the most weight. Cheltenham Avenue runs along the boundary itself, a hard, ridged road with a concrete history and a permanent shoulder of grit. Ogontz Avenue and Washington Lane cut across the residential side, and the shopping traffic concentrates around the Cheltenham and Ogontz junction. Off those roads the streets are wide, tree-lined and quiet, with driveways, mature planting and enough overhead canopy that a parked car goes weeks in summer without direct sun.

One, commuter stone off Old York Road and Cheltenham Avenue. Both carry heavy through traffic on repaired surfaces, and Cheltenham Avenue in particular sheds grit continuously from its shoulders. Old York Road south is the direct run: follow it across Cheltenham Avenue into the city, continue down to Erie Avenue, then head east on Erie past Broad, 5th and toward Front. Turn south into the small streets a couple of blocks before Front, where 3538 N Lawrence sits between Front and 2nd. From the western side of the township, Broad Street south is the alternative and joins Erie at the same point. Fifteen to twenty minutes depending on Old York Road. Yes. It is just over the line and the drive is short enough that mobile work in the township is routine rather than exceptional. Driveways make it straightforward: level ground, room to open the doors, and somewhere the car can stand for an hour while the adhesive gets its initial strength. A garage with the door up is better still in cold weather. What we will not do is promise mobile work in heavy rain or a hard frost, because a bond line that cures badly is a safety problem you would not see until it mattered.

A chip fill is thirty minutes and worth waiting for; a windshield is better as a drop-off.
