Jenkintown packs a lot into about a square mile. Old York Road runs straight through the middle of it as a busy four-lane commuter road, the borough streets either side are narrow with angled and parallel parking right up against moving traffic, and the train station pulls in drivers from the surrounding townships who leave their cars all day. That combination gives us two very different jobs from a small place: mirror and door glass damaged by something passing too close on a tight street, and windshields chipped miles away on the commute and only noticed at the weekend.
The useful thing about Jenkintown is that it is a straight run. Old York Road goes from the borough to within a couple of turns of our door without touching a highway, which makes both directions easy: you can drive down in twenty minutes, or the van can come up to a driveway with no expressway time to eat into the day. Most homes here have somewhere off-street to put a car, so mobile work is practical outside of bad weather. Old York Road, PA-611, cuts the borough in half and carries far more traffic than a street of that width was ever meant to, with parking on both sides in places and turning movements at every block. West Avenue and Greenwood Avenue run parallel and take the local traffic, and the streets around the Jenkintown-Wyncote station fill early with commuters. Township Line Road and Washington Lane connect out toward Cheltenham and Abington. The residential streets are older, narrow and heavily treed, with stone walls, short driveways and a lot of on-street parking on hills, and a car on one of those streets is being passed within inches by everything that goes by.
